Princess Amalia celebrates her 20th birthday, RVD shares photos

Princess Amalia was allowed to blow out the candles again today. The eldest daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima is 20 years old. The Government Information Service (RVD) traditionally shares a photo.

This year, an old photo from December 2022 was chosen, in which Amalia is dressed entirely in black and was taken at the Noordeinde Palace in The Hague. Other images from this photo session, captured by photographer Gemmy Woud-Binnendijk, have already been shared. RVD did not publicly state how he celebrated the Crown Princess’s birthday as it was a private matter.

Amalia has been studying Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics (PPLE) at the University of Amsterdam since 2022. In her spare time, She enjoys horseback riding, singing and playing tennis.

Because of his education, he renounced his rights as heir to the throne. However, over the last twelve months he has carried out a number of duties related to his role. According to RVD, he will do this as long as his studies allow.

Last January, he traveled with his family to Aruba and Sint Maarten, among other places, to get to know this part of the kingdom. He was also present at photo shoots and King’s Day.

Security

Last year it was revealed that Amalia was placed under tight security. According to the royal couple, the princess had to deal with “serious threats” and could no longer leave the house.

So he left his student dormitory in Amsterdam. During her visit to Sint Maarten, Princess Amalia said the situation was “very difficult”. She said that she also missed her student life.

In August this year, it was announced that a 40-year-old man had been arrested in the case. According to the judgement, he wanted to kidnap or kill the Crown Princess. RVD could not say whether the arrest had any security implications. At this point, the prosecutor could not say whether this man was the reason for the tightened security measures. The man is no longer a suspect in the case.
