French President Emmanuel Macron announced the promise made to him by the Hungarian Prime Minister. It’s about Ukraine and the EU.
French President Emmanuel Macron said Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban personally promised him that he would not block Ukraine’s accession to the EU if it met all the conditions set by the European Commission.
Macron was asked to comment on Budapest’s position during the press conference after the European Council summit. – I asked him (Orban – ed.) and he said that if Ukraine meets the seven conditions of the European Commission, he will not block its accession to the EU – said the French leader.
Emmanuel Macron also expressed hope that the Hungarian Prime Minister will not hold Europe “hostage” in the next stages of negotiations with Ukraine. – The coming months will be decisive for Europe and Hungary – he added.
Ukraine and Moldova are moving closer to the EU. There is a decision of the European Council
Let us not forget that the European Council decided on Thursday to start accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova. Georgia was given the status of a candidate country.
“The European Council has decided to open accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova. The European Council has granted Georgia the status of a candidate country. The EU will start negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina once the necessary level of compliance with the membership criteria has been achieved and asked the Commission to present a report by March that would allow such a decision to be taken. “This is a clear signal of hope for their people and for our continent,” European Council President Charles Michel wrote at the social networking site
Speaking to journalists before the start of the European Council summit, the Hungarian Prime Minister again expressed his doubts about the EU’s expansion to Ukraine.
– Expansion is not a theoretical issue. Expansion is a legally detailed process, substantively substantiated and with preconditions. We have set seven preconditions. And even according to the European Commission, three of the seven were not achieved. Therefore, there is no reason to negotiate Ukraine’s membership now, Viktor Orbán said.
