Four teenagers have been arrested after a huge fire in North Wales destroyed the former headquarters of Anglesey Council. A large number of emergency services were called to Shire Hall in Glanhwfa Raod, Llangefni, on Sunday, December 17, as fire engulfed the derelict building.

Several roads in the area were closed as crews responded to the incident, which began around 10 p.m. North Wales Police have confirmed that four teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of arson and remain in custody pending investigations.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said that at the height of the incident five crews, including aerial apparatus, were battling the fire. Officers were still at the scene on Monday morning and a stop signal was not received until 12 hours after the fire started.

A man on Glanhwfa Road told North Wales Live he saw flames in the building when he looked outside at around 9.30pm. “It was impressive,” he said.

Another resident, who did not want to be named, said this morning: “It is surprising that the fire started when it was raining heavily. It was well contained.” He added: “There are always children around here. I saw them a few months ago at the back of the police station and told them to leave.



The teams were still present on Monday morning.

Photographs after the fire was extinguished show that the building was completely burned. Detective Inspector Richard Griffith, of North Wales Police, said: “We believe this fire was caused by arson and our investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances. I am appealing to anyone who was in the area last night and witnessed the incident or who has dashcam or phone footage to contact us. “We thank the local community for their patience and support while emergency services dealt with the fire.”

A spokesman for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called last night, Sunday 17th, at 9.20pm.thousand December to a fire in a derelict building in Glanhwfa Road, Llangefni.

“At the height of the incident, there were five crews, two ladder platforms, an incident control unit and a high volume pumping unit. Two crews, a lift platform and a large volume pump were still present, removing the water early. this morning and the stop was received at 11:16. “Following a joint investigation this morning with North Wales Police, the most likely cause of the fire is deliberate arson by persons unknown.”
