China, magnitude 6.2 earthquake. At least 118 victims: digging through the rubble

At least 118 people died in the 6.2 magnitude earthquake in northwest China, according to Chinese state media. Broadcaster CCTV reported that 105 people died in Gansu province and another 11 in neighboring Qinghai province as a result of the earthquake that struck shortly before midnight on Monday. More than 500 people were injured. The earthquake hit Jishishan County in Gansu, about 5 kilometers from the provincial border with Qinghai. According to the United States Geological Survey, the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.9. Chinese President Xi Jinping called for “all-out” efforts in search, rescue and relief efforts.
