Armed attack in the center of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. Police reported that there are currently an unknown number of dead and injured in the shooting attack at the Charles University Faculty of Arts. The attacker used a sniper rifle. An explosion would also be heard. Prague police said the gunman allegedly responsible for the university shooting had been “eliminated” after he emerged on the roof of the Faculty of Arts following the shooting. According to preliminary information, a man with a rifle first wandered through the corridors of the university and then went to the roof.
Some people at the university were locked in classrooms, while others were evacuated. Police closed the entire area around Jan Palach square, blocking traffic and diverting trams and buses. Rescuers activated the so-called trauma plan. Eyewitnesses wrote on social media that there were “many armed attacks”.
Authorities invited citizens not to linger in the square and not to go out. Police intervention still continues. Minister of Internal Affairs Vi’t Rakusan will also go to the field. “Based on preliminary information, we can confirm that there are dead and injured people at the scene,” the police said on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
