Amnesty International (AI) has called for an investigation into mass arrests, abuse and enforced disappearances of Palestinians by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip.
“The Israeli army must urgently reveal the fate and whereabouts of all the people they have detained since October 7, including Nidal al Waheidi and Haizam Abdelwahed, two Gaza journalists who have been forcibly disappeared for more than two months,” the statement said . of the NGO. Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Heba Morayef.
“Israel has a terrible record of impunity for abuses by its armed forces.”
He therefore asked the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to specify these reasons for all arrests and to provide information to families, especially during periods of power outages in the Gaza Strip.
Morayef recalled that “Israel has a terrible history of impunity for violations committed by its armed forces.”
He therefore called for an independent investigation into all deaths in custody, including enforced disappearances, torture and other ill-treatment.
Two journalists arrested by Israel
The two journalists cited by Morayef were arrested on October 7 while reporting on Hamas attacks on the border with the Palestinian enclave.
Israeli authorities have not provided any information about his whereabouts. They were last seen at the border with Erez.
AI also noted that Israel confirmed the deaths of at least six Palestinians, including two Gaza workers, who were in custody in October and November.

On the other hand, AI expressed concern about videos of Palestinian prisoners being “stripped of their clothes and forced to kneel on the ground, in their underwear and with their hands tied.”
The NGO was able to access this data and geographically locate at least three photos and a video released on December 7 showing dozens of men held by the army in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza.
“These men were stripped of their dignity and dehumanized.”
“These men were stripped of their dignity and dehumanized in violation of international law. “Nothing can justify deliberately mocking or humiliating prisoners,” Morayef stressed.
“The shocking scenes in Gaza should provoke international condemnation and warrant urgent investigation and action to prevent further torture, disappearances and other crimes under international law,” he said. (European press)
