We hope you have the opportunity to relax at home during your vacation. But whether it’s to run last-minute errands, work on your next vacation or visit family, you can take the bus.
If you do this, be aware that many operators give their staff time off over Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year, and will work reduced hours on the following days. You can get more news from across Wales with our daily newsletter here.
That’s why we’ve put together this guide to what Wales’ biggest bus operators will be doing at Christmas, from Cardiff Bus and Newport Bus across Wales to Lloyds Coaches in North and Mid Wales and Arriva in the North East. See the local bus timetable below:
Buses from Cardiff
Regular services take place on December 23rd. Sunday hours are extended on Christmas and New Year’s Eve, ending early. There are no buses at Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year. Saturday times are in effect from December 27th to 30th, with additional services from December 27th to 29th.
From January 2nd to 5th there will be other changes to the schedule. You can read more on the Cardiff Bus website.
Diligence
On Christmas and New Year’s Eve, there will only be regular flights on Sundays and all flights will end at 8pm on both days. There will be no service at Christmas and New Year: the operator stated: “Our great people will have a well-deserved rest”.
On Boxing Day, special timetables will only operate on services X24, 132 and 151. Saturday and school holiday timetables apply on the remaining days of the holiday period; see here for full details.
the first bus
All services are suspended and will be closed on Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve will operate with the usual Sunday schedule, but some flights will close earlier than normal, so the operator has confirmed the final departure times for each one.
Check the First Bus website for this and other information about incomplete timetables for Saturdays, December 27th to 29th. Regular school holidays will resume from January 2nd.
Newport Bus
Newport Bus will not operate on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day. Normal services will run Monday to Friday, December 22nd to Christmas Eve and December 27th to New Year’s Eve (including weekend times if necessary). Normal services will resume on January 2nd, except when they coincide with Cardiff Bus route 30 (see more here).

Adventure travel
No adventure travel services will operate on Christmas Day and none will operate on Boxing Day or New Year’s Day, with the exception of service 905, which will operate on a Sunday schedule and finish early. On the remaining days of the holiday period, certain services will not operate. You can see the full list for each day on the Adventure Travel website.
Lloyds Coaches
Lloyds Coaches will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day and will not operate as normal until approximately 7pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve and as normal on all other days. More information on the operator’s Facebook page.
arrival
Arriva buses in Wales and Chester will operate normal Sunday services during Christmas Eve and New Year, approximately between 6pm and 7pm. Services do not operate on Christmas and Boxing Day, and from 27th to 30th December and 2nd January, normal service. More information here.

Edwards Coaches will not operate on Christmas Day or Boxing Day, nor will normal weekday services (i.e. including Saturday and Sunday times) be available on 23 December, Christmas Eve, 27, 30 and 31 December and from December 2nd. You can see the schedule here.
TrawsCymru
TfW’s TrawsCymru intercity services, operated by different operators, have different timetables during this festive period. You can click here to find out the status of services T1 to T14.
