The parents of Ilaria Conti Gallenti, a 28-year-old from Bologna who was found dead by her husband – or rather her ex-husband – in her New York apartment last December 15, want to see this clearly. It was initially assumed that the woman’s death was due to sudden illness, possibly a heart attack. The matter is currently being investigated to dispel any doubt: Ilaria’s mother is seeking clarity and has flown to New York with her daughter’s long-time friend Margherita.
Death marked as ‘natural death’
Let’s take a step back. The 28-year-old from Bologna, who went to the USA to pursue a career in the restaurant marketing industry, was found lifeless in her bed at her home in Queens by her husband, a Korean-American chef candidate, from whom she was last married. May and the person she broke up with for a very short time: That’s why the man was sleeping on the couch in another room.
According to the initial assessment, the ex-husband went to check when he heard the alarm going off. He then called 911. When medical personnel arrived, they confirmed the death. Her friend Margherita Grandini explained that “Ilaria suffered from arrhythmia – we learned that, according to the doctors, this was not the cause of her death”. Her friend Margherita says that the autopsy “revealed no occult pathology other than a common cardiac arrhythmia” and that toxicological tests did not reveal any abnormal substances in the circulation. The case was branded a “natural death”. But this is difficult to understand. “Further investigations, which we are conducting privately, are needed to clarify what actually happened.” Police are investigating the incident, but investigations continue in great secrecy. Her husband is not under investigation and appears to be cooperating with investigators.
Constant arguments with ex-girlfriend
What makes the family suspicious are the details about the young woman’s personal space and her relationship with her husband. Neighbors reported that the two were arguing constantly in the days leading up to his death. Moreover, 4-5 days before her death, Ilaria and her husband had separated, “so she was sleeping on the couch.” Her 28-year-old friend collected Ilaria’s recent messages and secrets and handed them over to the police.
Another element that caught the attention of Ilaria’s family is the video she sent to her mother at 7.15 in the morning, shortly before her death. A quarter of an hour later, Margherita recalls, she wrote to a friend “to see each other during the day.” An hour later, the 28-year-old man died. “We just want the truth to come out,” Ilaria’s friend repeated. The body can only be returned to Italy after police investigations are completed. His closest friends have already mobilized for the transfer in order to contribute to the transportation costs of the body.
