US President Joe Biden should take seriously the possibility of a nuclear attack unleashed by Russia and Vladimir Putin. This is what Peter Schroeder, a former CIA analyst and expert on Russian foreign policy at the Center for a New American Security, suggested. The man, who published an article on the Foreign Affairs magazine website, stated that the outlined scenario is “very likely”. The analysis obviously plunged everyone back into the nightmare of a possible escalation of the war in Ukraine.
“We have no indication that Putin intends to use weapons of mass destruction, let alone nuclear weapons,” John Kirby, a spokesman for the US National Security Council, said in January. The use of the atomic arsenal is “very unlikely,” added Avril Haines, director of National Intelligence and former head of the Langley Agency, a few months later. These are sources and statements that Schroeder cited in his speech. For the former CIA agent, the possibility of an attack against one of the Atlantic Pact nations could not be ruled out. In that case, Moscow would act immediately.
