Israeli president calls on Christians to ‘fight evil’

Israeli President Isaac Herzog called on Christian churches to clearly condemn the Hamas attack.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog called on Christian churches to support his country in “eradicating evil from the Holy Land and enabling a different future for Israelis, Palestinians and the region.”

At a meeting with patriarchs and church leaders on Thursday evening, the Israeli leader condemned “extreme fundamentalist Islam” as an “expression of an evil empire” and a global problem. This “evil empire emanates from Tehran and believes in the ideology of jihad, which we must all eradicate,” the president said at a meeting marking the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays.

President of Israel disappointed

Isaac Herzog added that there have been “some very disappointing comments recently from some very important leaders of the Christian world and we expect a change of direction.” However, he did not provide details or names.

Recently, Israeli diplomats and Jewish religious leaders have repeatedly appealed to Pope Francis to take a clearer stand against the atrocities committed by Hamas.

– Evil forces of the worst kind carried out a barbaric, sadistic attack, killing innocent women, children, old people, young people, people of 40 nationalities and taking hostages – said Herzog, emphasizing that “none of this is in accordance with the Gospels, with the teachings of Jesus Christ, with the teachings of the Jewish faith, but also with moderate Islam.

Isaac Herzog, who claims that he took clear steps last year to defend the Christian communities in the Holy Land, now expects that “patriarchs, other heads of Christian churches and all circles in the Christian world will clearly condemn these atrocities,” i.e. the actions of Hamas, KAI reports.
