6-year-old boy traveling without his family was put on the wrong plane

A six-year-old boy was flown hundreds of miles away from his family after Spirit Airlines put him on the wrong flight. Although it may seem like a retelling of a classic Christmas movie, Casper’s story is not a fantasy. He had to go to his grandmother and was left hundreds of kilometers away from his family when he was only 6 years old. It happened on December 21 when the toddler, traveling alone, was put on a flight from Philadelphia to Orlando instead of Fort Myers (still in Florida but hundreds of miles away) due to an error.

This was Casper’s first time on a plane to be with his grandmother, Maria Ramos. She was excited to take him to Southwest Florida for Christmas vacation, but when she arrived at the company desk to pick up her grandchild, she found herself faced with a surreal situation. The flight attendants first said that her child had missed the flight, then realized their mistake when the suitcase reached the luggage compartment.

Luckily Casper was four hours away in Orlando. Spirit Airlines offered to cover the cost of the trip, but the family is still searching for answers. “How did my nephew get to Orlando? How did it happen? Did they take him off the plane? Did the stewardess leave him alone after his mother gave him the documents? Did he jump on the plane alone?” Wrong plane?’ Ms. Ramos wonders. According to the airline, the child was under the care and supervision of a flight attendant at all times. However, he did not explain how such a mistake could be made.
