South Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun, famous for his role in the movie “Parasite”, which won the 2020 Oscars, was found dead. This was reported by the South Korean Yonha agency, citing a suspected suicide. The body of the 48-year-old actor was found in a car in the center of the capital Seoul.
Lee Sun-kyun was under police investigation on suspicion of using marijuana and other psychotropic drugs. “I sincerely apologize for disappointing so many people by being involved in such an unfortunate incident,” he said. According to several South Korean media outlets, the scandal had damaged his image as a successful actor, depriving him of television appearances and advertising contracts.
Lee Sun-kyun had starred in many feature films of director Hong Sang-soo, including “Haewon and the Men” in 2013. He gained international fame with “Parasite” directed by Bong Joon-ho. His latest film, “Sleep”, in which he plays the role of a sleepwalking husband who terrorizes his wife, was screened out of competition in the “Critics’ Week” category at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
