Amid a new wave of violence in Gaza, United Nations (UN) aid workers have expressed concern about “increasing difficulties in delivering humanitarian assistance” amid continued attacks and an evacuation order.
The spread of disease is an immediate threat due to water, sanitation and food shortages in the south, where population density is increasing by 12,000 people per square kilometer, as reported by the UN.
This has hampered efforts to supply the Gaza Strip: nighttime attacks by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip and violent clashes with Hamas fighters, UN humanitarian workers warned this Wednesday.
At the same time, the United Nations Palestinian Refugee Agency (UNRWA) stated that Israeli ground forces were attacking locations in the north and south of the Palestinian territory, including central areas, causing increasing concern. the safety of displaced civilians.
UNRWA Gaza Affairs Director Tom White wrote on Twitter that Rafah in southern Gaza was overwhelmed, highlighting the difficult situation with a video showing long lines of vehicles packed with mattresses and belongings.
“The population is forced to move again. More people in less space. Rafah in the south is now bursting at the seams. There is no ceasefire. “It is time for a humanitarian ceasefire,” he wrote.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that Israeli forces have taken “intensive” measures. Air, land and sea bombardments across most of the Gaza Strip between December 23 and 26, including more than 50 attacks on refugee camps that killed dozens, and access for aid teams was hampered due to destroyed roads.
Since the bombings began more than 80 days ago, Israeli forces have responded to Hamas-led terrorist attacks in southern Israel by at least leaving the country. According to the enclave’s health authority, 20,915 Palestinians died, including 858 between December 23 and 26. OCHA also reported that 164 Israeli soldiers were killed and 874 injured during ground operations in Gaza.
The situation worsened with a new evacuation order from the Israeli army affecting residents of the central Gaza area, he said.
Juliette Touma, director of communications at UNRWA, warned of the dire situation in the southern camps, citing precarious conditions such as: “400 people sharing one bathroom,” which increases the risk of spreading disease.
UN humanitarian officials reiterate the difficulties in meeting the needs of the population in southern Gaza, where population density is extreme. Despite all efforts, the delivery of humanitarian assistance was successful, a challenge given the escalation of violence and difficult conditions in the region.
The United Nations has called on the international community to address this humanitarian crisis and ensure the protection of affected civilians.
