A teenager has tragically died after an accident while riding his motorbike. South Wales Police said Preston Kemps died from his injuries following the incident on Cwmavon Road in Port Talbot on Boxing Day. He was just 15 years old.

Those who knew Preston, who attended St Joseph’s Catholic School, where a book of condolences was opened in the chapel on Thursday and Friday, began to boast. Visitors can also light a candle to pay tribute to the young man.

A police statement said: “South Wales Police are investigating a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on Cwmavon Road, Port Talbot, at 1.45pm on Tuesday 26 December. A motorcycle and a 15-year-old driver were involved in the accident. Old Preston Kemps of Port Talbot died from his injuries.

“His family has the support of specially trained agents. Preston School, St Joseph’s Catholic School and the Sixth Form Center open their chapels from 10am to 2pm on Thursdays and Fridays for visitors to light a candle or leave a book of condolences. Officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who has any dashcam or surveillance footage of the incident or collision to contact us quoting 2300437605.”

St Joseph’s Catholic School and Sixth Form headteacher John Felton wrote in a statement: “We are deeply saddened by the news of the tragic and unexpected death of one of our Year 11 students, Preston Camps. Preston was an excellent student. , incredibly polite and smiling during his time at St Joseph’s Catholic School and Sixth Form centre. He will be missed.

Our school chapel will be open to students, parents, staff and friends of our school community at the following times: Thursday, December 28th (10am to 2pm) Friday, December 29th (10am to 2pm). Visitors can light a candle or make a note in the book of condolences. The school will also be open from January 2nd, at the same time as before. We establish the conditions of support with the help of the TNP counseling service and our local clergy. Please keep the family in your prayers. Grant eternal rest to Preston, O Lord, and may eternal light shine upon him. May he rest in peace, amen.”

The Baglan Boys and Girls Club (BGC) wrote on Facebook: “It is with heavy hearts that we extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Preston Kemps-Lee. Preston was a former Baglan BGC player but was never an outsider. He is 15 years old and losing him is truly painful. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones at this difficult time.”

Window installation company Bayview Aluminum wrote on Facebook: “A word for Preston. It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we send all our love and condolences to Preston’s family and friends at this very painful time. We want to tell you a little about him at work. Preston is an amazing boy who is growing into a wonderful and incredibly kind young man. We are lucky to spend two days a week with him. The two days he is with us are full of smiles and happiness. We are all looking forward to Wednesday and Thursday when he will be home. Preston is a pleasure to be around and this year he has shown tremendous maturity for his age. He is hardworking and eager to learn. Mr Mosford spoke highly of Preston before he joined us.

“We thought: is this too good to be true? It is not. He is such a bright and kind person. Congratulations to his family. Preston exploded recently, it seems like overnight he went from a boy to a young man, ready to give up.” Year 11. Preston is a regular football commentator, we love hearing about his weekend matches, wins, losses or draws, he runs the team most weeks.

“Preston understands the process to get where he wants to be. Getting into the truck for the tenth time or cleaning all the windows is never a chore, it’s just a stepping stone to the next best task. He is patient and motivated! On the last day before Christmas, Preston, a delight to the world, brought a Christmas card for each member of the team. He wrote each card by hand… “Merry Christmas and thank you for everything you’ve taught me.” Preston x ‘We wish Preston love and happiness wherever he goes, don’t forget to stop by the shop on the way to get some chocolate chips and soda because you never know when you’ll be late.
