A freighter struck a mine in the Black Sea

A Greek freighter struck a Russian mine in the Black Sea. As a result of the explosion, a small fire broke out on board.

The incident took place on Wednesday when the cargo ship was on its way to Ukraine for grain. According to information from the “Politico” portal, the ship “Vyssos” would sail under the Panamanian flag. The pick up point was Izmail port.

The ship “Vyssos” hit a mine

The explosive detonated while the ship was in the Danube Delta in the Black Sea. The explosion caused damage and a small fire. Three people were injured. Two sailors and a cook. In response to the incident, Ukraine sent rescuers and doctors to the facility.

After the intervention of the services, the ship continued its journey towards the port, where it would arrive on Friday. It is secured by tugboats.

Broken grain deal

Let us not forget that the grain agreement negotiated by the UN and Turkey had been in force for some time, under which Moscow agreed not to attack grain ships or port infrastructure in the Black Sea.

In mid-July this year, Russia officially withdrew from the ‘grain agreement’. The Kremlin announced that ships sailing to Ukraine via the Black Sea would be considered “potential military ships.” Moscow then threatened that “the countries whose flag these ships fly will be considered involved in the conflict on the side of Ukraine.”

In the following months, the Russian side attacked Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea. It used missiles and drones to fire.

Subsequent attempts to negotiate a reinstatement of the agreement were unsuccessful. – We will be ready to resume the grain agreement once all agreements contained therein on lifting restrictions on exports of Russian agricultural products have been fully implemented, Putin said at a press conference after the meeting. According to him, Russia was cheated during the last extension of the grain agreement.
