A massive search is underway for a third day after a young man was seen entering the River Taff. Joshua Shaw, 23, was seen entering the water at Pontypridd shortly after 6.05pm on Wednesday.

South Wales Police are carrying out a search alongside the National Police Aviation Service (NPAS), Her Majesty’s Coastguard and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, but Joshua remains missing. He was known to be wearing a gray hoodie, dark pants and white sneakers at the time of his disappearance. South Wales Police are appealing for witnesses.

A South Wales Police spokesperson said: “Emergency services continue to search along the River Taff after Joshua Shaw, 23, was seen swimming in the river on the evening of Wednesday 27 December. A search was carried out by South Wales Police with assistance from the National Police Air Service (NPAS), HM Coastguard and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, but he remains missing. It is believed Josh was wearing a gray hoodie, dark pants and white sneakers. “Our specialist search and rescue team (SSRT) and NPAS continue to search along the River Taff from Pontypridd to Cardiff.”

Inspector Lee Parfitt of the local police said: “We are appealing for witnesses after Llys Cadwin saw Josh enter the River Tuff at Pontypridd on the afternoon of Wednesday 27th December shortly after 6.05pm. Efforts by police, fire and fire crews rescue, Josh remains missing and we are concerned for his safety.”
