South Korean opposition leader Lee Jae-myung was stabbed in the neck while speaking to reporters in the southeastern port city of Busan today. According to the Yonha news agency, it was stated that the attacker was a person arrested at the scene by the police. The politician, who was taken to the hospital about 20 minutes after the attack, was conscious but was still bleeding. His condition is serious but not life-threatening.
He had just visited the construction site of the new airport on Gadeok Island. The scene of the attack was recorded by South Korean television channels. In the footage, we see a man wearing a paper mask mingle with the crowd of journalists, suddenly lunge at Lee and hit his neck with an object. The politician collapses to the ground. Then he came to the emergency room, and before the paramedics arrived, some of the people there pressed tissues around his neck.
