New Year’s Eve riots in the Netherlands. Dozens of police officers injured

In some Western European countries, New Year’s Eve has traditionally seen riots and attacks on responding police officers.

Many incidents took place in the Netherlands, in which more than 200 people were detained. The crimes committed include: arson and attacks on emergency services and police. Dozens of officers were injured.

Riots on New Year’s Eve in the Netherlands

Peije de Meij, representative of the police headquarters in The Hague, says in a press release that the attacks take different forms.

– People who wanted to celebrate were pelted with fireworks. Houses and cars were also targeted. When interventions took place, many police officers and other officers faced aggression and violence, the officer said, adding that this was completely unacceptable behaviour.

In Delft, police officers were attacked with heavy fireworks. In The Hague, a police car was set on fire and officers were pelted with bottles of flammable liquid. Similar incidents also occurred elsewhere in the country, for example in Groningen. In turn, a shooting took place in Capelle aan den IJssel in central Netherlands, in which one person was killed.

They also had fun in Germany

A high price for the so-called multicultural wage is standard in Germany. This year, the Berlin police mobilized 2,000 people on New Year’s Eve. up to 2.5 thousand officers. At the same time, the number of police patrol cars was increased from 150 to 220. About 500 federal police officers protected light rail and train stations.

Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner announced before Christmas that authorities would take decisive action against potential troublemakers.

As reported by the dw.com.pl portal, there were further attacks in Berlin on responding police officers and firefighters, who were thrown and fired with fireworks. However, according to the Berlin police, it was quieter than last year’s New Year’s Eve.
