Transfer of command in Mebar: General Herbert Benavidez takes over as commander

This Wednesday, January 3, from 4:00 PM in the afternoon, the recently promoted General, National Police Officer Herbert Benavidez Valderrama, will take over as the new commander of the Barranquilla Metropolitan Police.

This event will take place in Plaza de la Paz, opposite the María Reina Cathedral and will be attended by civil and military authorities from the region.

The new head of the institution will succeed General Jorge Urquijo Sandoval, who took office in August 2022 to try to pull the city and the municipalities of the metropolitan area under his jurisdiction out of a security crisis.

Precisely in an interview with EL HERALDO, General Urquijo stated that the new commander must “continue the policy of our director (General William Salamanca), which is nothing other than working hand in hand with the administrative authorities, to build on what built.

Continue this direct contact with the leaders of the different neighborhoods of the community action councils, of the security fronts, the social leaders who are so important to work on strategies such as crime prevention and crime prosecution.”

General Benavidez Valderrama, 50 years old and born in Florencia, Caquetá, has served as deputy commander of the Bogotá City Police; head of the Anti-Narcotics Investigation and Operations Department and commander of the Pasto Police Department.

At the time, Barranquilla Mayor Alejandro Char welcomed him on his account X. “I welcome BG Herbert Benavidez Valderrama, who joins the Police Command. One of our main objectives is to provide security to the people of Barranquilla, and we are ready to work as a team and achieve that goal,” published the President of the Barranquilleros.
