Biden starts 2024 with a decline among Latino, African-American and young voters

U.S. President Joe Biden started this election year with a decline in the number of Latino, African-American and young voters in the coalition pushing for his 2020 victory, a poll released Monday showed.

The survey by the USA TODAY newspaper and Suffolk University also showed that the Republican has a two percentage point lead over Biden in a hypothetical presidential contest against former President Donald Trump (2017-2021) (39% – 37%).

The poll found that Biden currently has the support of just 63% of African American voters, compared to 87% in the 2020 election, in which he defeated Trump.

One in five African-American voters now say they will support a third-party candidate in next November’s presidential election, the poll shows.

Among Latinos, the Democratic share also fell to 34% from 39% in 2020, according to the survey, which surveyed about a thousand potential voters between last Tuesday and Thursday, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

In 2020, Biden significantly outpaced Trump in this minority by a margin of 65% – 32%.

Trump now leads Biden by 37% among voters under 35, according to polls published by USA TODAY.

The Republican primaries start on January 15 with the caucuses in Iowa and according to all polls, Trump is the favorite to run against Biden again.
