The imam of a mosque in Newark, New Jersey was shot and killed. According to American media, the victim’s name was Hasan Şerif, he was taken to the university hospital in critical condition and died a few hours later. The cleric was shot in front of the Masjid al-Mohammad mosque at 6 a.m. local time. The killer is currently unknown. According to New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin, there is no evidence that this was a crime motivated by religious bias or an act of domestic terrorism. But all roads are open.
Şerif was found lying on the ground in a parking lot a few meters away from the entrance of the mosque by the police teams who arrived at the scene. The body had multiple bullet wounds in its abdomen and left arm. The images recorded by security cameras in the region are being examined by investigation teams. Some were not operational, but investigators believe they found at least one that showed someone entering the parking lot and running away.
