The miners spent four days underground, following one of the tunnels exploitation where they worked, located in Manicaland province, collapsed along with them.
The Metallon Corporate Gold company owns the land where the incident occurred, but the miners were at work artisanal way and they probably “took out the support pillars” from the pit they were in, Zimbabwe’s Mining Minister Soda Zhemu told EFE.
The Redwing Mine has suffered several blows in recent years landslides of pits that trapped miners, leading to the Environmental Management Agency Zimbabwe Environment to close it in January 2023.
However, many miners continued to work illegally in the region exploitation and a total of 26 people have died due to landslides in the past year.
