Severe collision between truck and tourist bus: At least 25 dead, 6 injured

There are at least 25 dead and 6 injured in the serious accident that occurred between a tourist bus and a truck carrying mangoes in the northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia on Sunday night, January 7. According to the local newspaper “A Tarde”, a pregnant woman was among the victims on the bus. The victims were tourists returning from a trip

According to the information given by the Anjos Jacuipense Volunteer Brigade, the accident occurred at around 22.30 at the 381st kilometer of the BR-324 highway. The minibus was returning to Jacobina from the Guarajuba region when it collided head-on with the truck. The victims were taking a trip and spent Sunday at the beach. Mobile Emergency Care Service crews responded to the scene along with firefighters, military police and federal traffic police. Six more people were rescued and transported to nearby medical units, but so far there has been no update on their health and the results of the investigations are awaited to understand what may have caused the accident. The mayor of Jacobina, a municipality classified as a “microregion”, declared three days of mourning.
