China’s BYD has overtaken Tesla

The Chinese billionaire is a new star of the global auto industry. Wang Chuanfu is the author of BYD’s success, which displaced the American Tesla led by Elon Musk from the top spot.

Talk less, work more – this is the motto of the Chinese manager, which he revealed at the end of 2022 in an interview for the Middle Eastern edition of Forbes magazine. In this respect, Wang Chuanfu is the complete opposite of the eccentric American billionaire. Due to its quiet operation, BYD cars outsold Tesla in the first half of 2022 (BYD sold 641,000 electric and hybrid cars, while Tesla only sold 564,000). In the last quarter of 2023, the Chinese company BYD, based in Shenzhen, became the world’s largest manufacturer of electric cars. In terms of the number of fully electric cars sold, the Chinese have overtaken the old king of electric cars, namely Tesla, led by Elon Musk.

CHINESE DREAM

Born in 1966, Wang Chuanfu, who lost his parents as a teenager and was raised by his older siblings, studied metallurgy and physical chemistry at Central South University. He also graduated from the Beijing Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals. The chemist, who came from a family of poor farmers, worked for several years at state research institutes. And although a government job could give him a secure job for life, the young Wang Chuanfu wanted something more from life.
