Drug traffickers kill a judge and plunge Ecuador back into chaos

César Suárez, the Ecuadorian public prosecutor who was investigating the attack by a group of drug traffickers on the TC Televisión television studios last Tuesday, January 9, was shot dead. The event, as reported by local media, led to the declaration of internal armed conflict by President Daniel Noboa. The officer was shot while driving his car down an avenue in the city of Guayaquil, the nerve center of Ecuador’s war against drug gangs. According to the local press, after leaving his office located in the Judiciary Police complex, he was followed by gunmen who attacked him at an intersection. The official questioned the thirteen prisoners on TV after the violent operation.
