The girl who was abandoned on the street with her shopping bag in London on January 18 is in good condition. A passerby found him while he was walking his dog. The incident took place in Newham, on the eastern outskirts of the city. Considering the low temperatures recorded these days, she could have froze to death, but the man kept her warm until paramedics arrived.
What do we know about little Elsa?
The baby, born less than an hour earlier, was wrapped in a towel and “placed” in a shopping bag. Her crying caught the man’s attention. She would be a black or mixed race girl. The person who found him saved his life by keeping him warm until paramedics arrived, police said. The little girl was taken to the hospital and left under the care of medical personnel. She was given a temporary name: Elsa.
“Now, the little girl’s mother will have had a dramatic moment and will need urgent medical attention after birth,” Chief Constable Simon Crick told the media. Officers are trying to track down the woman. “Qualified doctors and specialist officers are ready to support you and we encourage you to get in touch.”
This is the third time something like this has happened in Newham in the last four years, the BBC recalls. In February 2019, a little girl was left in the park, while in January 2020, a boy was found on the side of the road.
