A residential building in the western part of Damascus, the capital of Syria, was hit by an air strike on the morning of Saturday, January 20. According to the official Syrian agency, the raid is attributed to Israel: “A residential building in the Mezze neighborhood was attacked in what is considered Israeli aggression.” According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the death toll from the airstrike now stands at least five. While the building was completely destroyed during the raid, the first images began to appear on social media.
According to reports in the Arab media, “pro-Iran leaders” were meeting in the building. A source interviewed by Al Jazeera claims that the target of the raid was the Iranian Pasdaran, the Guardians of the Revolution. The victims will include four senior advisors to Tehran: one of them will be Hajj Sadiq, the senior intelligence officer of the Quds forces.
Meanwhile, Ismail Al Sindawi, a representative of Islamic Jihad, denied the report that some members of the group were in the bombed building: “The leaders are in good condition – reported the Hezbollah-linked Al Mayadeen broadcaster -. The attack had no impact on the group’s operations.” No comment has been made by Israel for now.
