Ukraine, 007 from Kiev on Prigozhin mystery: “No proof he is dead”

Kiev once again casts doubt on the death of Yevgheny Prigozhin, Wagner’s boss, victim of a plane crash on August 23 last year in Russia. In an interview with the Financial Times, the head of Kiev’s military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, said: “I’m not saying he’s not dead or that he’s dead. I’m saying that there is not a single piece of evidence that he is dead.” Speaking about the mobilization of Russian forces, who turn to mercenaries when they don’t have enough men, Budanov recalled the role of the group founded by “Putin’s chef”: «Wagner exists . And speaking of Prigozhin, I wouldn’t jump to conclusions.”

Meanwhile, at least 25 people were killed in a bomb attack on a market on the outskirts of the city of Donetsk in Russian-occupied Ukraine, local officials said. Another 20 people, including two children, were injured in the attack in the suburb of Tekstilshchik, said Denis Pushilin, head of the Russian-installed authorities in Donetsk. He said the bullets were fired by the Ukrainian army. Kiev did not comment on the event and the allegations could not be independently verified by the Associated Press. Pushilin said the area was hit by 155mm and 152mm caliber artillery, and that shells were fired from the direction of Kurakhove and Krasnohorivka in the west. He also confirmed that emergency services continued to work at the scene. In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry described the attack, which it attributed to Ukraine, as a “terrorist attack”.
