Middle East, Houthi missiles against ships in the Red Sea

Yemen’s Houthi forces fired three missiles at ships in the Red Sea. White House national security spokesman John Kirby had this to say. “The Houthis launched three missiles at two merchant ships in the southern Red Sea,” adding that “one missile missed the target” and “the other two were shot down by a US Navy destroyer.”

Kirby added: “This obviously highlights that the Houthis still intend to conduct these attacks, which means we will obviously have to do whatever is necessary to protect these shipments.” US Central Command said the missiles were fired “at the US-flagged container ship M/V Maersk Detroit” but did not mention the second vessel targeted. There were no reports of injuries or damage to the vessel.
