In a recent operation against insecurity, a prosecutor from the Atlantic Division of the Public Prosecution Service managed to persuade guarantee control judges to arrest four men for their alleged participation in theft crimes.
According to reports from the entity, Andrés José Rojano Arteta and Miguel Ángel Medina Ruíz were prosecuted in a first case for the theft of cash and mobile phones from passengers of an interdepartmental bus on the Barranquilla – Cartagena road on December 11, 2023.
Elkin Chiquillo, director of the Atlántico section, assured that “cooperation of citizens was essential for the arrest of those involved, who were found in possession of the stolen objects.”
None of the defendants pleaded guilty to the aggravated robbery charges charged by the prosecution; both were sent to El Bosque de Barranquilla prison.
In the second case, Luis Eduardo Cabarcas and Ricardo Jesús González Villa were accused of entering a chain store in Barranquilla’s La Manga neighborhood on December 23 to steal customers’ cellphones and cash.
After committing the crime, the two people fled the scene, but were later arrested by the National Police.
The Public Prosecutor charged them with the crime of aggravated theft, a charge that was not accepted by the defendants. At the request of the prosecuting agency, the subjects were sent to a detention center as a security measure.
