50 bags of cocaine were found in the office of the Minister of Education of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, Caroline Desir. The investigation is still ongoing and people have already been charged.

The case was publicized by the Brussels daily newspaper “La Dernière Heure”. The local prosecutor’s office confirmed that drugs had been seized from Minister Desir’s office. The incident took place in mid-December 2023.

Eight people were arrested in connection with the case, including an assistant and the son of a Belgian politician.

“On Wednesday evening, December 15, I was informed that my assistant in charge of office equipment and logistics had been arrested in connection with a drug trafficking investigation,” Desir said in a message published on X (formerly Twitter).

The next day the minister’s office was searched. It turned out that there were about 50 bags “of white powder”.

The politician fired people who “abused trust”. A lawyer specializing in criminal cases was also contacted to work with investigators.

The son of a Belgian politician was arrested

Desir said further searches of the office found no illegal substances. She also noted that despite the police’s willingness to cooperate from the very beginning of the incident, they did not call other ministry employees for questioning.

According to the findings of “La Dernière Heure”, investigators have charged eight people with selling and possessing drugs. One of these people is the son of a Belgian parliamentarian and the aforementioned assistant, in whose house PLN 10,000 was found. euros.

It is also known that two suspects have been released on parole and the rest have been temporarily arrested, which is confirmed by the National Bar Association.
