Coast Guard tracks stolen boat in Barranquilla Riverport harbor

A Caribbean Aeronaval Group helicopter joined the search on Friday, January 26, for a boat that was docked at the private port of Riverport, opposite the Magdalena River, and robbed by armed individuals the night before.

Lieutenant Commander Juan Ricardo Ortegón, commander of the Barranquilla Coast Guard Station, stated in dialogue with EL HERALDO that the case was reported on Thursday around 7:30 PM and the search for the boat was immediately started along the river, both upstream and downstream.

During this search, according to the officer, four crew members of the stolen motor boat were found adrift, who had apparently been attacked by the criminals.

“The individuals traveled in a canoe, boarded the boat from the harbor and then removed the crew members. These were abandoned in the river and rescued by our coastguard,” he said.

The officer then specified that the search for the stolen boat had continued on Friday morning with the Aeronaval Group helicopter and that “coast guard units have been deployed” along various parts of the access channel to the port of Barranquilla.

This is the first reported case of theft of a ship, at least one of which is connected to a private terminal, intended for the storage and handling of grain, coal and coke since 2014.
