The former American president Donald Trump (2017-2021) was found guilty by a jury on Friday of defaming writer E. Jean Carroll in comments he made in 2019 while he was president, for which he will have to pay $83.3 million in damages.

The jury’s verdict was read without Trump in the room, while Carroll was present and hugged his lawyers but did not want to make any statements to the press.
After a two-week trial, the nine-member jury found the president guilty of the damage caused Caroll in defamatory comments made in July 2019 and ordered him to pay 18.3 million in damages and 65 million more in damages, much higher figures than those taken into account during the trial.

The former American president described “completely ridiculous” the verdict and announced that he will appeal against it.
For him, it is a sign that “our legal system has gotten out of hand and is being used as a political weapon.”
“THIS IS NOT AMERICA!” he wrote on his Truth Social network.
