Following the decision of the Supreme Court of Venezuela to uphold the disqualification of María Corina Machado and Henrique Capriles, the US State Department has not ruled out reimposing sanctions against that country.
Spokesman Matthew Miller noted on his X account that the sanctions policy will be reviewed. “The Venezuelan Supreme Court’s decision to confirm the disqualifications of María Corina Machado and Henrique Capriles undermines a competitive presidential election. Based on this action and the attacks on the opposition and civil society, the United States is reviewing our sanctions policy,” he said.
