Red Sea, Egypt’s appeal to the Houthis and Iran to avoid falling into the abyss

An attempt to relieve tension in the area. Egypt has asked the leadership of Houthi militias in Yemen to reduce attacks on ships crossing the Red Sea. The information was revealed by the newspaper Al-Arabi Al-Jadid, which highlights the decline in maritime traffic in the Suez Canal and the resulting economic losses. According to the newspaper, Egypt asked the Houthis not to carry out regular attacks, but to carry out occasional attacks. The Yemeni militiamen, however, reportedly refused.

Likewise, continues the Arabic newspaper, Cairo sent the same message to Tehran, which was asked to put pressure on the Yemeni militias. “Increased Houthi activities will worsen the ongoing economic crisis,” Egyptian officials told Iranian officials. The source cited by Al-Arabi Al-Jadid explained that Egypt asked Iran to “avoid further worsening of the security situation in the region”. But it does not appear that this route had the desired effects and there were other attacks during the night as well.
