Russia, the plan to destabilize Moldova. What is the real goal

Russia is preparing to destabilize Moldova, probably also to prevent its integration into the EU. At least according to the analysis of the American think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW). Tensions between Moldova and the Kremlin intensified following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, with the pro-Western government in Chisinau repeatedly accusing the nation led by Vladimir Putin of destabilization attempts. Alexei Polishchuk, director of the Second Department of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said yesterday in an interview with TASS that Moldova has begun to “destroy its ties” with the Russian-led CIS. Meanwhile, rumors are circulating that Chisinau will leave the CIS by the end of 2024.

The Commonwealth of Independent States was created after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and currently groups nine former Soviet republics. Moldova has not formally left the CIS, but has effectively suspended its membership in the organization in 2022. Polishchuk explained that its departure would benefit neither Moldova’s citizens nor its economy. He also said that the solution of the Transnistrian issue in Moldova is in a “deep crisis” and that Russia could resolve it as a “mediator and guarantor”. A complete threat.
