Zelensky-Orban meeting. There is new information

Ukraine has taken a decisive step towards a meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

This was stated by the Head of the Chancellery of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, during a joint press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Péter Sijarto, who started his visit to Ukraine today.

– We have really taken a big step towards organizing such a meeting. But as I said, we are currently preparing for it and we want this meeting to end with concrete results. We didn’t talk about a specific date today, Jermak said.

He also added that both sides showed interest in a meeting between Zelensky and Orban as soon as possible.

– What we certainly have in common is that we will not even give anyone the opportunity to think about the fact that neighboring countries may not have good neighborly relations, Jermak emphasized.

Orban-Zelensky meeting

In December last year, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced that he had accepted an invitation to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Hungarian Prime Minister noted that Zelensky had offered him a meeting for the purpose of “negotiations”, the first official bilateral meeting of the two leaders since the start of the war.

So far, Zelensky and Orban have had a brief conversation in Argentina during the inauguration of the term of the country’s new president. Zelensky later reported the conversation as follows: “The last time in Argentina I said to Orbán: ‘Viktor, give me one reason why you don’t support us in the EU?’ He didn’t answer anything, the president of Ukraine said.

The Ukrainian president also asked Orbán why they could not organize an official meeting between them. – He couldn’t answer that either, Zelensky said.

On January 29, Hungary announced its willingness to reach a compromise that would allow an aid package for Ukraine worth EUR 50 billion to be financed for four years from the European Union budget.
