Another confrontation between the UN and Israel. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior in Tel Aviv announced the decision to ban the United Nations special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, from entering Israel. A well-known accusation against the Albanians for statements described as “scandalous” in relation to the attack on October 7, 2023 in Israel carried out by Hamas.
Yesterday, the Israeli Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, had asked the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, to “immediately” dismiss the UN rapporteur. What is the Albanian “guilty” of? In particular, a post about “The Greatest Anti-Semitic Massacre of Our Century? No, Mr. Emmanuel Macron. The victims of 9/10 were not killed because of their Judaism, but in response to Israeli oppression. France and the international community did nothing to stop it. My respects to the victims”, the incriminating statements.
The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the UN rapporteur by reiterating that October 7th was in fact “the biggest anti-Semitic massacre of the 21st century and contesting it is a mistake”. According to the Quai d’Orsay, “these comments are even more scandalous considering that the fight against anti-Semitism and all forms of racism is at the heart of the founding of the UN”. Katz then went further to argue that “framing the October 7th massacre as a reaction to ‘Israeli oppression’ rather than an act of anti-Jewish hatred is deeply troubling. The time of Jewish silence in the face of such false statements is over. We must be strong and vocal against such narratives.”
