Rafah, “extraordinary operation”: Israeli attack, 2 hostages freed

Israel announced that it managed to free two hostages kidnapped by Hamas in Gaza. The two, Fernando Simon Marman (60 years old) and Norberto Louis Har (70) were rescued after a joint operation by the IDF, the Shin Bet and the Israeli police in Rafah. They were kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak on October 7. This is only the second successful operation of its kind since October 7th. The first was the rescue of Private Ori Megidish at the end of October. “Together with the Prime Minister and senior commanders, I followed the operation from the operations room. I offer all my thanks to the IDF, the Shin Bet and the National Anti-Terrorism Unit,” said Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, speaking of an “extraordinary rescue operation.”

“The IDF and Shin Bet have been working on this operation for a long time. Until now, the conditions to carry it out did not exist and we waited for them to mature. Reaching the goal in Rafah’s heart was very complex. Law enforcement agencies clandestinely arrived at the target at around 1 a.m. and carried out a very complex raid in the rooms and on the second floor where the hostages were held,” said IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, offering details on the rescue of hostages Marman and Har. At the same time that Israel woke up to the news of the rescue of two hostages, the IDF also announced the death of two soldiers during operations in Gaza
