King Charles III of Great Britain made his first public appearance since announcing his cancer diagnosis.
Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that British King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer. The disease was discovered during a recent treatment for an enlarged prostate, but the tumor is not prostate cancer. Buckingham Palace has not revealed exactly what cancer it is. Charles III was in hospital from January 26 to 29.
After the palace announced the British monarch’s illness, the Speaker of the House of Commons, Lindsay Hoyle, interrupted the session of Parliament and made a short, moving statement. – I know that the whole House will join me in expressing our sympathies to His Majesty. Our thoughts are of course with His Majesty and his family. We would all like to send him our best wishes for a successful therapy and a speedy recovery, he told the audience.
Charles III breaks the silence
On Sunday, King Charles III of Great Britain appeared in public for the first time since his diagnosis. He attended the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Sandringham in eastern England with his wife, Queen Kamila. The church is a short distance from the royal residence, where the British monarch plans to spend most of his time during his treatment.
Buckingham Palace published a statement from Charles III in which he thanked all the support received and expressed his satisfaction that the publication of information about his illness has helped raise awareness of the situation of all people struggling with cancer. “I would like to thank you very much for the numerous messages of support and well-wishes I have received over the past few days. As anyone affected by cancer knows, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and support. (…) Sharing my own diagnosis has helped increase public understanding and shed light on the work of all organizations,” we read.
