Andrzej Duda revealed details about his meeting with Donald Trump in the US. – This is a private visit – the president emphasized.

Andrzej Duda is visiting the US. The president met, among other things, at the UN headquarters: with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres. The topics of the conversations were current topics related to the development of Poland and our part of Europe.

– I said, among other things: about cooperation within the Three Seas Initiative, about our infrastructure development and about investment plans in our part of Europe. (…) I raised the topic of security and two major crises: the crisis resulting from Russian aggression against Ukraine and the crisis in the Middle East. Today we also talked about the Sustainable Development Week, which has started in the United Nations, and about tomorrow’s debate at the UN, in which I will give one of the most important speeches, Andrzej Duda said during a conversation with journalists.

Reporters also asked the president about the meeting with Donald Trump. It will take place on the night of Wednesday to Thursday, Polish time. At the press conference, Andrzej Duda was asked whether he was afraid that the meeting “could provide some resistance to the Joe Biden administration.” – No, I am not afraid, because presidents meet their colleagues, especially those who once held presidential offices in their countries. It is a normal practice and there is nothing special about it. Presidents also meet with various politicians during their visits abroad. It is normal that if a country has good relations with another country, it wants those relations to be the best, he said.

– I would like to emphasize one aspect. (…) I was invited by Donald Trump to his private apartment. So this is a completely private visit, a private invitation, Duda noted. – We have worked together for four years, we know each other, we have good relations and it is just a private meeting because of my presence in New York – he added.

State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller commented on the issue of a possible meeting between President Andrzej Duda and Donald Trump. Miller is not outraged by the idea of ​​a conversation, he even considers it part of political practice.

“I have no comment on this matter other than to say that foreign governments have interacted with major party candidates for years during U.S. election seasons, just as U.S. diplomats and leaders often interact with foreign opposition leaders,” he said.
