IACHR denounced the murder of a Mexican anti-corruption journalist

The Office of the Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) on Saturday condemned the murder of journalist Roberto Figueroa, which took place on Friday evening in the central Mexican state of Morelos.

“The @RELE_CIDH condemns the murder of journalist Roberto Figueroa, recorded on April 26 in Morelos,” the organization said in a short message on social networks.

In his post, he urged authorities to “carefully investigate the crime, find those responsible and ensure that the crime does not go unpunished.”

The IACHR thus ruled on the kidnapping and subsequent murder of journalist and content creator Roberto Figueroa, who was found dead in a car in the town of Coajomulco in Huitzilac, Morelos on Friday.

According to local media reports, the journalist was kidnapped from his home on Friday morning while returning from dropping his daughters off at school.

Later, Figueroa’s relatives received several phone calls, some from Roberto himself, asking them to raise money to deliver to his captors as ransom.
