If Russia tries to expand its current front, the US will allow Ukraine to attack Russian territory from a greater distance with American weapons, said James O’Brien, deputy secretary of state for Europe.
– Initially, this was the area where Russia launched its offensive near Kharkov. If Russia tries to expand this front, Ukraine will be able to achieve its goals from a greater distance, O’Brien said during a hearing before the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
According to him, the Russian army is currently losing the possibility of further attacks in the Kharkov region, as Ukrainian forces destroy enemy resources that have accumulated near the border.
“We are seeing dramatic changes in Russia’s ability to continue its campaign against Ukraine,” the US official said.
The US gave Ukraine permission to attack targets in Russia with American weapons
In late May, the United States allowed Ukraine to carry out attacks on Russian territory using long-range missiles, including ATACMS.
However, as the Washington Post in Kiev reported, the US limited the range of these strikes to 100 km from the border. Moreover, Ukrainian forces were only allowed to use missiles in places where Russian troops were advancing to occupy Ukrainian territory.
“It’s not about geography or a specific radius, but if Russia attacks or plans to attack Ukraine from its territory, Ukraine will be able to retaliate against forces that attack it from abroad,” said Pentagon spokesman Maj. Charlie Dietz.
Putin’s dangerous proposal. The king of Saudi Arabia refused
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in response to Ukraine being allowed to fire US weapons on Russian territory, said that Moscow may supply missiles to enemies of Western countries so that they can hit their targets.
Putin then, according to US intelligence, asked Saudi Arabia for permission to hand over cruise missiles to the Yemeni Houthis, who are trying to block navigation in the Red Sea. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, however, opposed this and refused to give Russia permission.
