The diocese is raising money for the maintenance of a ship that transports illegal migrants. To Europe

The diocese of Trier in Germany has called on the faithful to donate to a ship that will transport illegal immigrants, but not to Africa.

The case concerns a project called “Sea Eye 5”, carried out by the “Sea Eye” group, which formally deals with so-called sea rescues in the Mediterranean. In practice, rescue involves, among other things, fishing out illegal immigrants from the sea, who are then sent not to Africa but to Europe. Once there, they apply for asylum and start their lives at the expense of European taxpayers.

Illegal immigrants transported to Europe. Diocese wants Germany to finance it

The vicar general of Trier, Ulrich Graf von Plettenberg, wants the Germans to finance the “Sea-Eye 5” project. The action is expected to result in finding 3,000 sponsors who will pay €16.67 per month for the maintenance of the ship.

The ship was purchased thanks to the initiative of the Evangelical community in Germany, which together with other organizations raised €465,000 for this purpose.

Right-wing circles strongly oppose the practice, arguing that illegal immigrants are being rounded up off the coast of Libya and then, instead of being transported to Africa, flown to Europe.

As the website jungefreiheit.de recalls, the Italian government tried to combat the activities of “Sea Eye”. This country has a huge problem with the pressure of illegal migrants from Africa, and there are groups in the country that support this. Three years ago, a case where one of its ships was denied access to the port made a lot of news. At that time, 800 illegal migrants were being transported on board the ship. The decision of Rome then led to anger in the left-wing press.
