An American-made F-16 fighter jet supplied to Ukrainian forces has been destroyed in a crash, a US official told the Wall Street Journal. The crash reportedly occurred on August 26, “a few weeks after the first American fighter jets arrived in Ukraine.” According to an anonymous US official cited by the newspaper, the F-16 was not shot down, but the crash was caused by pilot error.
Meanwhile, the Russians are trying to make headway on the eastern front. “The fighting is particularly fierce” in Pokrovsk, a key logistics hub that has become a symbol of Ukrainian resistance to Russian aggression, said Ukrainian commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, who spent several days in the region. Russia is putting all its forces into attacks aimed at breaking through Ukrainian defenses, he said, adding that Ukraine is constantly resorting to unorthodox methods to strengthen its positions. A possible capture of Pokrovsk would undermine Ukraine’s defense capabilities and supply routes and bring Russia closer to its stated goal of capturing the entire Donetsk region.
