His words were met with thunderous applause and cheers from the thousands of people who gathered at the United Center stadium in Chicago, where this week’s Democratic National Convention was held, which culminated today with the speech in which Harris officially becomes the party’s candidate.
When Harris looked up, he could see hundreds of women dressed in white, the colour that united the suffragettes and with which they wanted to show that their protests were not aggressive, as well as being a symbol of purity, morality and legitimacy in their struggle.

The Democratic Party primaries were won by the American president, Joe Bidenwho had no significant rivals but announced on July 21 that he was ending his campaign for president after facing pressure from his party for a disastrous performance in a televised debate against Trump.
Biden then called on the party to unite around Harris, and the majority of delegates elected during the primary process quickly gave him their support.
