He had taken his 12-year-old son on a bear hunt, but one of them attacked him and bit him in several places. Ryan Beierman, that’s the man’s name, would have likely died if his son Owen hadn’t been so cold-blooded that he took his rifle and shot the animal dead. The incident took place in a forest in western Wisconsin, United States.
Bear hunting with his son
According to Beierman himself, he and his son had gone into the woods to hunt bears, and both had rifles with them. At one point, the 43-year-old saw a black bear and tried to approach it to surprise it. The opposite happened; the animal appeared behind the man and began to crush him. “Before I knew it, I was flat on my back,” he told the local newspaper Minnesota Star TribuneBeierman continues: “I started hitting him with the gun. It felt like I was hitting a brick wall. I tried to hit him between the ear and the mouth with the blunt end of the gun. All I could see were his claws . . . and his teeth.”
“A Hero Owen”
The bear bit the man on the leg, then the arm and finally the forehead. “The bear was fighting for its own life, and I was fighting for mine,” Beierman said. Owen, his son, was ready to fire when the animal lunged at his head to deliver another bite. The 12-year-old boy struck the bear point-blank, and it fled. The animal’s body would be found later. “Owen is a hero,” the 43-year-old man said proudly, with 23 stitches in his cheek and eight deep gashes between his leg and arm. A Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources official said hunting black bears is legal, even for minors.
