It’s not just in Lebanon anymore. Israel is now attacking the logistics headquarters of the Lebanese Shiite party Hezbollah in Syria. Yesterday, the Israeli army raided Hezbollah’s main intelligence headquarters in the country south of Damascus, the capital of Syria. During the raid, Tel Aviv forces hit several targets linked to Lebanon’s powerful political and military group, killing two people and wounding five others.
The news of the attack, which was later unusually claimed by Israel, was reported by the Syrian Ministry of Defense, as reported by the Sanaa agency, and it was stated that there was “material loss” in the attack, but there was no death or injury. Again, according to the Syrian Ministry of Defense, the attacks were from the Golan Heights, which Israel has occupied for decades, and were directed against various “civilian targets”. Larger and more worrying details came from the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), which said Israeli airstrikes killed two members of the Lebanese Hezbollah movement and left five seriously injured.
Mahdi Mahfouz, who lives in the area, told the AFP agency that he “heard three explosions in a row, one very loud” and then saw “a column of black smoke rising”. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported at least three explosions in the area and noted, among other things, that a house, Iran Pasdaran, “used by Hezbollah and the Revolutionary Guard” in the Sayyidah Zeinab area was also hit.

According to the Observatory, three raids took place, with the first attack on the Kaou Sudan area near Sayeda Zeinab, which was filled with displaced Lebanese, Hezbollah men and Iranian militias. According to the Observatory, the second was to hit near a hotel southeast of Sayeda Zeinab, while the third was to target Iranian militia territory on Al-Rawda Road in southern Damascus.
In a rare admission, the Israeli Air Force said this morning it hit “targets” at Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters in the Syrian region. “The attack on military intelligence headquarters assets in Syria contributes to attacks in Lebanon that are damaging the intelligence capabilities of the terrorist organization Hezbollah,” the Air Force said.
Prolongation of the conflict in Syria
The Observatory reported that 137 Israeli raids have been documented in Syria since the beginning of the year. In chronological order, the last one occurred today. According to local media reports, the Israeli raid targeted an industrial area in the city of Al-Qusayr in western Syria, not far from the Lebanese border. Israel has long been carrying out attacks on the Syrian capital against targets it believes are linked to Iran. However, over the past year, attacks have become more frequent since the conflict in Gaza began after October 7, 2023. Last Sunday, the Israeli army admitted to carrying out a ground operation in Syrian territory and announced that it had captured a Syrian man in Syria who allegedly spied on troops on the Israeli border on behalf of Iran.
Since the start of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of attacks targeting the Syrian army and Tehran-backed groups, especially Hezbollah, deployed to support government forces.
