Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the opening of the base in Redzikov is an attempt to move US military infrastructure towards the Russian border.
The opening of the military base in Redzikowo near Słupsk (Pomeranian Voivodeship) is scheduled for November 13. Part of the US missile defense system reached operational readiness in mid-December 2023, after a delay of almost four years. This is the most significant American combat investment in Poland. The base has a long-range radar station and is armed with interceptor missiles that can shoot down intercontinental missiles.
Peskov: Putin expressed his reservations
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, quoted by Reuters, said Vladimir Putin had reported his reservations about the investment to the US government during the presidency of George W. Bush. Peskov noted that, in Vladimir Putin’s assessment, “the United States is lying about the use of the shield.”
The Kremlin spokesman referred directly to the opening of the base in Redzikowo. – This only confirms Putin’s words. These plans are still being implemented and involve moving US military infrastructure on European territory towards our borders, Peskov said.
As the representative of the Russian Federation noted, opening the base is an attempt to undermine Russia’s military potential. Peskov announced that Russia would “take appropriate measures to ensure the balance.”
What is the status of the base in Redzikowo? The key role of the US Navy
The head of the National Security Agency, Jacek Siewiera, drew attention to the status of the base in Redzikowo.
– This is a US naval base, but falls under NATO command. As a US base, it carries out transatlantic defense tasks, Siewiera told Polsat News.
In turn, General Waldemar Skrzypczak, former commander of the Land Forces, stated in an interview with “Rzeczpospolita” that the shield in Redzikowo is not suitable for combating medium-range missiles such as Russian Iskanders or other tactical missile weapons launched, for example. from the Königsberg region. According to the former deputy head of the Ministry of Defense, time is needed to adapt this base to new threats.
