The Lebanese Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, contacted the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, to express his solidarity regarding the attack on Unifil forces, in which four Italian soldiers were injured. This was reported by the Lebanese state news agency NNA.
“I would like to express my deep solidarity with Italy and hope for a speedy recovery of the injured soldiers. What happened is unacceptable. We are committed to completing the investigation and will report the findings as soon as they are completed,” Mikati said. “The Lebanese government strongly condemns this incident and will take all necessary measures to ensure that similar actions do not occur again in the future,” he added. Finally, the Prime Minister of Beirut hoped that this event would not influence Italy’s determination to support Lebanon nor its key role in helping the Lebanese reach a ceasefire.
